Alliance Française

Founded in 1947, Alliance Française is not only an educational organization but also a Global network with deep roots in the French language and francophone culture. The Calgary chapter hosts many cultural events and gatherings, be sure to check out Café Croissant – a French breakfast at cSPACE King Edward on September 29th. Browse the beautiful library located on the 3rd floor of the cSPACE King Edward Building, or take up a French language class for any level of learning. Alliance Française provides beginner to advanced classes and action-based teaching to prepare you for travel, business, or just casual conversation.

Atelier Artista

ATELIER ARTISTA is the working studio of Brian Batista, an artist, educator, and mentor with a diverse artistic background in animation, video, sculpture, painting, and drawing. Brian currently teaches at the Alberta College of Art and Design, Quickdraw Animation Society, and at Swinton’s, and will be opening a private atelier and school at cSPACE King Edward.

Calgary Allied Arts Residency

The CAAF Residency is a program offered by the Calgary Allied Arts Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports and encourages the development of art and culture in Calgary. Drop by the 4th floor studio acting as an “arts incubator” with an open exhibition during AB Culture Days.

Paula Timm Artist+Studio

Paula Timm is a visual artist, instructor and writer inspired by observing the narrative in urban and rural life. An advocate for Creativity, Paula partners with Calgary artists and not-for-profit organizations to foster community engagement initiatives that promote and encourage the healing relationship between wellness and creativity. Her hope is to inspire others to consider their own personal journey and its important connection to self-expression.

 

Join Paula Timm in her studio on Friday evening for a Fireside Chat for a lively discussion on her journey to entrepreneurship, through creativity and  wellness. Come visit Quest Theatre on the 3rd Floor of cSPACE King Edward School for some shadowy adventures. Bring your parents, come play in the lights, and make some amazing stories! Volunteers will lead children and families through art projects based on artworks in the exhibition. The young artists will learn new techniques and have the opportunity to create their own artwork to take home.

Ever wonder about the amazing practice of marquetry (using wood veneer to create images)? Jean Claude and Talar Prefontaine will take you on a wonderful journey of discovery in this 2-hour session all about wood. See, hear and touch all the different types of wood they use in create stunning pieces of art.

Yesterday Today Tomorrow – Public Art at cSPACE King Edward
Grand Historic Entrance (off of the Park/30th Avenue SW)
Artists Caitlind r.c. Brown & Wayne Garrett will be onsite for Culture Days 2018, sharing experiments and documentation from Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow and After Image, two public artworks currently being created for cSPACE King Edward in collaboration with Lane Shordee. Designed specifically for the historic grand entrance of cSPACE King Edward, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow is built from 105 suspended hourglasses. After Image is a wireframe artwork mimicking the archway of the school and destined for install in the public park South of cSPACE King Edward. Caitlind & Wayne look forward to sharing their experiences in a casual format before Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow officially opens on October 6.

Live Mural Painting: “King”
Watch tenant and muralist Doug Driediger add to his mural “King” near the north cSPACE King Edward Parking lot.
Doug’s career has a national reputation for excellence; he is a juried member of the Graphic Designers of Canada, and a juried member of Canada’s prestigious National Watercolour Society, the CSPWC. With a focus on large-scale public art, Doug is best known for his interpretive work for Parks Canada/Alberta Parks, as well as his iconic murals (done for CUPS, the Petroleum Club and the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede) in downtown Calgary. In total he has completed over 40 murals throughout Western Canada, and his art is included in several significant collections, including a major purchase award by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. Location: North of the cSPACE King Edward 29th Ave Parking lot.
