Sun.Ergos 45th Anniversary Gala

Original characters, dances and humorous stories from around the world, including The Legend of Old Befana, Liturgy and Shall We Dance.

Come enjoy a gala performance featuring the company’s repertoire from its earliest years to the present. Audience favorites include The Legend of Old Befana from A CHRISTMAS GIFT, excerpts from Oedipus the King, original dances and characters, and humorous stories from India and Viet Nam. A highlight of the gala will be one of the company’s signature pieces, Liturgy, a stunning duet for dancer and moose skull, which was filmed in Slovakia.

Robert Greenwood and Dana Luebke founded Sun.Ergos in Calgary in 1977, and in the following years became Alberta’s foremost international touring company of theatre and dance. They have represented Alberta and Canada around the world, performing and teaching in 22 countries. Special among the awards they have received from Canada, the U.K., the United States, Poland, Croatia, Mexico and Iran is the Redom Danice Hrvatska s Likom Marka Marulica – Croatia’s highest cultural award – presented to them in 2004 by the President of Croatia.

Sun.Ergos’ mandate has always been to celebrate the differences and recognize the similarities among peoples and cultures in order to witness our human foibles, our joys, our triumphs and our challenges. Theatre critic Louis Hobson wrote of Sun.Ergos, “Truly unique…Sun.Ergos soars above most of what passes for originality in Calgary, and for that reason it deserves our attention, respect and support.”
